Stonebridge, known originally as Breezy Heights, was built in the 1860s for a son of Andrew Dickson. The elder Dickson, an influential citizen of early Pakenham, owned lumber yards and a gristmill and sawmill, which were powered by the Mississippi. The fine craftsmanship of Ottawa Valley tradesmen is evident throughout the historic home, especially in the gracefully carved staircase and in the living, dining and sleeping areas. Set on a wooded hill, Stonebridge overlooks the Mississippi River and the only five-arch bridge of its kind in North America, originally built in 1901. Stately shade trees and expansive lawns encompass our quiet retreat. |
